Red Rover
Children try to break their opponents wall down to help build their own!
For: For kids and youths aged 7-16
Intensity level: Medium
Preparations: none
Equipment: none
Divide the children into two equal teams. This game is best played and more enjoyable with at least 4 or 5 players on each team. The two teams will then stand about twenty feet apart (it is highly recommended to play outdoors in a wide open area). The children on each team link hands to create their wall. The first team will start the game by chanting “Red Rover, Red Rover, Send (name) On Over” being sure to insert the name of a child on the opposite team into the chant. Whoever was called runs to the other team’s side and tries to break through the wall. If the wall is broken, that player then picks someone from the opposing team to go back to their wall, making their wall stronger. If the wall is not broken, the player who tried to break through then stays on that side, making the opposing team stronger. The team who gets all of the other’s players on their side wins the game.
