Red Light, Green Light

Children listen to instructions (red light & green light) from the leader and advance to the finish line. Be the first to cross to win!

Equipment: none

Determine a starting and finishing line at least 10 to 20 feet apart. Select a child to be the leader. The leader will call out instructions alternating between the two commands (”Red Light”, “Green Light”). When “Green Light” is called by the leader, children start walking or running towards the finish line. When “Red Light” is called by the leader, children need to stop and stand still where they are at. Any child who moves on a “Red Light” will need to start at the beginning again. Any child who does not move on a “Green Light” will need to start at the beginning again. Play continues until a player crosses the finish line. The first child to cross the finish line wins and will become the leader for the next game.

*Children can choose other activities to use to cross the finish line. Activities can include skipping, jumping, slow walking, walking backwards, and much more.
