Young children enjoy fishing for their own prizes!

Number of participants: 1+
For: For kids under 6 years.
Intensity level: Medium
Preparations: Make fishing poles with the following materials: sticks, string or yarn, and horseshoe magnets. Make fish shapes with colored construction paper (red, blue, green, yellow) and attach paper clips to the fish for the mouth.
Equipment: Fishing Rod, Colored Fish, Prizes

Begin by constructing at least 2 fishing rods out of sticks, yarn or string and horseshoe magnets.  Once complete, cut fish shapes out of different colored construction paper and attach a paper clip to each one acting as the fish mouth.  Try to make an even number of fish per color (i.e. 3 red fish, 3 green fish, 3 blue fish, and 3 yellow fish).  Color coordinate the fish to correspond with prizes (ex: red fish = lollipops, green fish = yo-yo, etc…) and place on the floor in a circle or in an empty child’s pool. The children take turns with the fishing rods. Children use the magnets on the ends of the string to “catch” the fish by their mouths (the paper clips).  Each child will earn a prize and that prize is determined by the color of the fish that they caught. Continue until each child gets a prize, or all of the prizes are handed out.
